7 Card Stud Rules :

Seven card stud can be a bit confusing at first, but once you play the game a few times you'll be fine. I've written the rules to this poker game below, but make sure you read through them thoroughly, so you don't miss any information. You'll be able to find 7 card stud available in most poker rooms, but the biggest poker sites always have the most stud traffic.

» Seven Card Stud Rules - Before the Deal

The dealer position moves around the table in a clockwise direction at the end of each hand. Before the deal each player in the game needs to put an ante bet into the pot. Once the ante has been put into the pot by everyone at the table the dealer will be able to deal out the initial cards to everyone. To begin the hand the dealer deals out two face down cards to each player and then a 3rd card that's dealt face up so everyone can see the card.

• When each player has their 1st 3 cards the 1st round of betting takes place. The player that has been dealt the lowest card face up needs to put a forced bet into the pot that's half the size of a full bet or a full bet. Once the player has made the forced bet the action continues around the table until everyone is finished calling, raising or folding. You can only raise the pot up to a total of 3 times during each betting round while playing 7 card stud.
• At the end of the betting round the dealer deals a 4th card (Face Up) to each player still in the pot. Each round of betting from this point on begins with the player that was just dealt the highest face up card. When each player has been dealt their 4th card there is a betting round. The dealer then deals out a 5th card (Face Up) to each player still in the hand and this is followed by another round of betting. Players still in the hand then receive a 6th card (Face Up), which is followed by a round of betting.
• The 7th card is dealt face down to each player, so that it's hidden from the rest of the players in the hand. There is one last betting round and anyone still in the pot at this point can flip their hand over to see who won.

In 7 card stud players need to use the 7 cards they were dealt to make the best 5 card poker hand. You need to make sure you know the hand rankings in poker in order to make the best 5 card hand. There are no community cards in 7 card stud, so you can only use the cards that have been dealt to you. The player with the best hand takes down the money in the pot and if there happens to be a tie in the hand then the players with the same hand split the pot.
